Operator Program
This link provides access to the department's Engine & Quint Operator Manual. The 45-page manual covers a wide range of topics related to safe and effective operations. The New Recruit Operator Program is structured around the information contained in this document. A paper copy is also available in the watch office.
NIOSH LODD Reports
NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) firefighter line of duty death (LODD) reports are detailed investigations into firefighter fatalities that occur while on duty. These reports analyze the circumstances surrounding each incident, identify contributing factors (such as equipment failure, lack of training, or command issues), and provide recommendations to prevent similar tragedies.
They are important for firefighters to review because:
-
Learning from past incidents – They offer real-world case studies that help departments understand how and why fatalities occurred.
-
Improving safety practices – The recommendations can lead to updates in training, procedures, and policies that enhance firefighter safety.
-
Promoting a culture of safety – Regularly reviewing these reports encourages ongoing dialogue and awareness about operational risks.

House Fire - POMs
Preferred Operational Methods (POMs) are designed to guide decision-making and actions on the fireground while ensuring consistency in both training and operations. These documents outline Preferred Operational Methods for structure fires involving small to medium-sized houses, specifically one- to two-family private dwellings.
